The population of the city according to the 2004 census was approximately 564,884. The city is magnificently located on the river valley of Platte and a part of the city also lies on the Rocky Mountains; because of such elevation of the city it has been nicknamed as 'The Mile-High City'. The city is important to Colorado in many aspects; being the state capital the city has immense network of transportation and communication facilities and houses innumerable places of interests.
