Colorado Springs Airport, Colorado

City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport or the Colorado Springs Airport as it is popularly known as is just six miles in the South Eastern portion of Colorado, in America. It is indeed the second busiest airport of Colorado as far as the number of flights arriving and departing from it concerned. Along with this Colorado Springs Airport, you will also find the Peterson Air Force Base, situated in the northern end of the runway.

Founded in the year 1927, this airport previously used to cover up an area of 2.6 square kilometers. It also used to have two separate runways that were made up of gravel. This airport had its first terminal built in the year 1940 in accordance with the art deco style. Another terminal wad added to this airport in the year 1966 at a relatively newer site.
By the end of the year 1991, this airport had three 150 feet wide runways, one of which measuring 16000 foot got connected to the Denver International Airport during September 2003. The new terminal of this airport is 280000 square foot in measurement and has a 16 gate facility. The total expenses that were incurred in preparing the same amounted to $ 140 million Dollars.

All through the 1970’s 80’s and 90’s, the Colorado Springs Airport was in the constant lookout for expansion in its operations. In the year 1996, this airport had the opportunity to serve the largest number of passengers which was approximately equal to 5 million. According to the present day stats, this Colorado based airport is in the constant lookout for enhancement of its existing operations and this can be elucidated with the fact that it has already introduced non stop flying facilities to 13 other American cities. Even it has extended its aviation services to many non-hub cities in the last few years, and is still continuing to do so.
