Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines, the fourth largest airline in US has its base at Houston, in the US state of Texas. Continental Airlines is a US certified air carrier and is the eighth largest airline in the world in terms of revenue passenger miles. The famous slogan of Continental Airlines has been “Work Hard, Fly Right”. Continental Airlines is a major airlines of US that serve more than 151 domestic destinations throughout US and more than 120 international destinations throughout the world. Its principal international destinations include countries such as Canada, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. The airline carries out more than 3000 departures per day. Continental Airlines operates from its main hubs at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland, in the state of Ohio, George Bush International Airport at Houston in the state of Texas, and Newark Liberty International Airport at Newark in the state of New Jersey. Continental Airlines being a minority owner of Express Jet Airlines is a publicly traded company. Further Continental Airlines is a minority owner of Copa Airlines. Sky Team Alliance has provided membership to Continental Airlines in September 2004 by which the airlines hares code with the Sky Team Airlines.

Continental Airlines operated a large hub in Denver but was forced to shut down the hub in the tear 1995 after Stapleton International Airport was closed and replaced with Denver International Airport. Continental initially operated domestic flights and it was only in the year 1985 that the airlines started operating Houston-London Gatwick flight services. Due to the ensuing Bermuda II Treaty obligations, Continental is forbidden to ply flights to London Heathrow. But the US has granted permission to Continental to ply on the London Heathrow route. The British authority however, has given permission to the Continental to ply flights to London Heathrow by sharing code with Virgin Atlantic.
